OKC’s First Ever Mural Expo to Debut at the Plaza District Festival

As a highlighted feature of this year’s Plaza District Festival, Plaza Walls will host the first annual Plaza Walls Mural Expo, debuting 20 new murals by 20 artists — the first event of its kind for OKC. The artists will begin their work starting the week of September 18th, 2016 and will debut the newly painted Plaza Walls with live painting during the Plaza District Festival, September 24th. The public will be encouraged to walk through the Plaza Walls, an alley with entrances on 16th Street and Indiana Avenue. The alley will host several Plaza District business vendor booths and live music, along with a dedicated Plaza Walls Mural Expo artist booth with art and merchandise for sale created by participating Mural Expo artists.

The 54 foot-long street-facing wall on Indiana Avenue will host local artistic legend Jason Pawley. Jason’s Indiana mural will be on display starting September 9th and will run through the festival. The day of the Plaza District Festival, Jason will add to his Indiana mural as a participating artist of the Plaza Walls Mural Expo. His live work will be on display for all festival-goers to see along with a booth of his own, located on the corner of 16th St. and Indiana Ave.

Artist stipends are graciously being provided by the ‘Sponsored by YOU’ program through the Plaza District Association.  ‘Sponsored by YOU’ is a crowdfunding initiative that gives the local community an opportunity to support and take ownership of this year’s Plaza District Festival. By accepting online microdonations from individuals, the Plaza District Association will recognize the community as an official sponsor of the annual event.
